Instead of el ají, Hondurans may say el chile dulce, while Puerto Ricans might use el pimiento.

In this section we also learn how to say what we eat and if we are eating healthy foods for our bodies.
To say, “Do you have a balanced diet?” you would respond by describing what you avoid and what you are trying to avoid eating. For example, “Evito la comida rapida porque tiene mucha grasa. “ which means, I avoid fast food because it has a lot of fat.
Also, you can say how much or how many things you add in your food or what you do not put into yur meal.
For example, “¿Le echas mucha sal a la comida?” which translates to, Do you put a lot of salt on your food? You would answer either “si le echo sal” or “no le echo sal” , depending on your choosing.
This section was basically straight vocabulary and basic understanding of words.

To start the week, Mrs. Alderman was obviously disappointed with our first hour Spanish class. First of all, the class struggled on our open note exam and needed extra help on our direct objects with commands. When using direct object pronouns with negative commands, the pronouns go after the “No” and before the command. For example, no se las quites. But when using affirmative commands, the pronouns are attached to the end of the command. For example, dímelos.

After taking the closed book/note exam, we began working on the next grammar section. This grammar section includes words used around the kitchen, such as revolver (to stir), picar (to cut up), frito (fried), carbohidratos (carbohydrates), la recita (the recipe), una cebolla (onion), un ají (green pepper), and many more. Also, we learned how to explain whether someone eats a balanced diet or not. ¿Llevas una dieta balanceada? Finally, we ended the week with beginning to learn how to follow and create recipes. ¿Cómo se prepara … ?

Spanish Blog
This past week in Spanish we reviewed how to form commands. To form the affirmative informal command you must go to the informal you form and drop the “s”. To form the negative informal command you must go to the yo form, drop the “o” and if it has an ar ending add es and if it has an er or ir ending add as.
Examples of informal affirmative commands are
Bajar – baja
Parar para
Buscar- busca
Llegar- llega
Organizar – organiza
Examples of negative informal commands are:
Boblar – No dobles
Comer – No comas
Tocar- No toques
Llegar- No llegues
Organizar- No organics
Seguir – No sigas

Some verbs are irregular in either the affirmative or negative forms some examples of these are:
Dar – da No des
Decir di No digas
Ir ve No vayas
Hacer haz No hagas
Poner pon No pongas
Salir sal No salgas
Ser sē No seas
Tener ten No tengas
Pedir pide No pidas

To form formal commands is very similar to negative informal except you drop the s at the end.
We also learned verbs and nouns and adjectives that are used while cooking in the kitchen.
Some of them are:
La taza de medir - The measuring cup
Las especias- the spices
Picar – to chop
Picado – chopped
Nutritive (a) nutritious
We learned a new verb oler – to smell
The verb forms are
Yo – huelo
Tu – hueles
El ella, usted – huele
Nosotros – olemos
Ellos, ellas, ustedes - huelen

This week we went over the vocabulary section of 7-2 (en la cocina). Some cooking words we learned were:
Los huevos revueltos: scrambled eggs
Picar: slice
Una cabolla: onion
Cubrir: to cover
Una cucharita: teaspoon
La mostaza: mustard
We also learned to ask and answer questions about cooking and food:
¿Qué lleva la salsa? Sabe a los tomates. – What’s in the salsa? It tastes like tomatoes.
Le eché solamente una cucharada de salsa de tomate. – I only put in a table spoon of ketchup.
¿Llevas una comida rápida? – Do you eat fast food?
Evito la comida rápida porque tiene mucha grasa. – I avoid fast food because it has a lot of fat.
We also learned that when you give recipe directions you use the impersonal form of se because you may not be talking to directly one person:
Se hornea el pastel por dos horas. – (You) bake the chicken for two hours.

Last weekend we learned how you want your food made
Revuelto which means mixed
Freir is to frie
Or if you are trying to explain cold things
Like helado which means frozen
We also learned things you would find on top of your table
Sal is salt
Pimiento is pepper
Then you can add these words together and make sentence such as
Quiero papas fritas con sal. I want fires with salt.
¿Me pasas la pimiento? Can you pass me the pepper?
No me gusta el pollo todavia esta helado. I don’t like it the chicken is still frozen.
Mi nieve se esta derritiendo. My ice cream is melting.
As you could see connecting these little words together can give you different types of sentences.
