How to use Por y Para
· The prepositions por and para have different uses and meanings, although sometimes they both mean for in English.
Use por to mean
· All over, by, through (out), a long or in a general area.
· For or during a period of time
· For in the sense of because of or due to something
· (In exchange) for when exchanging or buying something
· Through something or by (means of) something
Examples:
Mario trabajó por cinco horas.
Tuve que cambiar la camisa azul por el morado.
Yo fui a la fiesta por el autobus.

Comparing Objects in a Store/Booth
-Write the sentence comparing the objects, and to answer, you need the article and the adjective. That is it.

¿Cuáles prefieres, estas mascaras azules o las rojas?
-Prefiero más las azules.
Which do you prefer, these blue masks or the red ones.
-I prefer the blue ones.
¿Cuál te gusta más, esta pulsera de plata o de oro.
-Francamente, me gusta la de oro.
Which do you like more, this silver bracelet or the gold one?
-Frankly, I like the gold one.

Using Por and Para

There are five instances to use “por”. Use por to mean:

1. -All over, by, through/throughout, along, or in a general area.
Caminamos por el centro comercial.
-We walked through the mall.

2. –For or during a period of time.
Dormí por ocho horas porque estudié por diez horas.
-I slept for eight hours because I studied for ten hours.

3. -For in the sense of because of or due to something.
Gracias por el regalo. Me gusta mucho.
-Thank you for the gift. I like it a lot.

4. –(in exchange) for when exchanging or buying something.
Compre esta blusa por ocho dólares y esos aretes por cinco dólares.
-I bought this blouse for eight dollars and those earrings for five dollars.

5. –Through something or by (means of something)/by means of transportation.
Tengo que salir por la puerta a la derecha.
-I have to leave through the door to the right.
